A study of Heeling of the Mind through Ecountering God-image

<Abstract>

 In order 10 study some aspects of men’s minds toward religion, we are going to look at images shown in paintings, especially Ihe images of Le Pére‘in Van Gogh’s and Munch’s painlings. To do this, we will study their works of art and their lives. based on the concepl“Name.of.the.Father, “which the French psychoanalyst Lacan devcloped, a methodology using the efTects of Jouissance function is adopled. Jouissance’s function is derived from the signifier and the signified of‘le père(a father) and Le Père(God)’ Lacan look Freud’s opinion of religion, in which during infanc)’ people have desires.

 To both artist, whose lives wère incomplete. the relationship between Le Père’and‘le Père was an rdipal one. signifying both a rival and an ideal. Munch and Van Gogh’s falhers pushed thc future artisl 10 think of G여 as an absolute authority 10 worshi p and obey However, did the anists accept the god of their falhers, the absolule divine being?

 To Munch, his father and God could be absolute authorities but they could not proteet his mother, who became an object of desire for Munch. This made him both revère and blame them. On the other hand, Gogh thinks of God as an ideal of aspiration and gratitude even though he was poor and desperate. He wanted to feel his father’s spiriluality in every situation, onl)’ to fail and kill himself.

 From Ihese reaclions 10 religion and Iheir fathers, we can see why both artists never gave up the subjecI of religion in the works of Iheir lives, whether positively or negalively. Their art was a way to heal what they couldn’t resolve otherwise in their harsh lives.  Then, was religion both a source of trauma and a pan of the hea1ing pπ’ocess for them? Can we say that the replacement of the object they desired is failure? As seen in the paintings of Munch and Van Gogh, religious imagery in art may be a person’s attempls 10 visualize and portray Ihe religious exrience he or she desires.
Their work shows the sources of pride and regret as well as their desires. They paint the Ihings Ihat they wanl 10 posδess or distance themselves from. We can leam how to interpret the images people make. and find ways to use these images 10 treat mental issues Positive images do nol always yieldp‘itive results in Iherapies, and negalive images can give aid 10 patients. Making art can be a helpful tool in therapies because the art can have diffèrenl meanings for different situations.
